MAD ABOUT HOLLYWOOD

5 February 2020 - 7 March 2020 Centro de Arte Alcobendas

This photographic exhibition deals with the imprint left by Hollywood stars working and living in Madrid and its surrounding area in the fifties and sixties. It was then that the city turned into a hotspot for film shootings thanks to the arrival of the Bronson Studios.
Settled in Madrid from 1953 till 1967, Ava Gardner became the indisputable protagonist of this new movie-making trend. This was a time when it was not uncommon for people in Madrid to come across big stars, directors, producers, and scriptwriters, who were caught on camera carrying on with their daily lives, as the photographs in the exhibition will show.
The great variety of sceneries and landscapes, as well as the low technical costs and the easy access to filming licences, allowed for the production of huge Hollywood blockbusters in the city. Movies such as Alexander the Great, starring Richard Burton, and The Pride and the Passion, produced and directed by Stanley Kramer, with Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, and Sophia Loren among its cast, were shot in studios in Madrid and other different locations of the region.
