The city of Alcobendas straddles the road leading up to the mountains just to the north of Madrid. One explanation for its name is that it refers to an edible wild plant, and indeed the roof of the Centro de Arte Alcobendas is covered with a carpet-like layer of autochthonous wild vegetation that goes almost unnoticed by visitors.
The CV Collection is an extremely organic collection in constant movement and growth. Carl Einstein says its strength lies precisely in that mobility, in the deliberate moving of its exhibits backwards and forwards, alternating between interpretative analysis and public visibility. In this case, that movement also means transition from the private to the public domains, sharing the works collected and repositioning them to offer a specific reading or vision of their meaning.
This project brings together a series of works from the CV Collection which generate a dialogue with the history, the surroundings and the spatial configuration of the Centro de Arte Alcobendas, inviting new interpretations based on the actual setting in which they are displayed. The interaction between the works and the different rhythms and time periods of a specific venue and audience brings forth a whole web of underlying issues, creating an unpredictable, fragmented area of communication that touches on a number of themes - the present-day relationship between culture and Nature; the different ways of passing on knowledge
made possible by the new settings and the role played by magic and fantasy in that process; the relationship between human and non-human elements, considered from a non-anthropological point of view; the interaction between linguistics, space and matter; and unpredictable forms of creation rooted in history, science, philosophy and literature. Apart from the works on display in the exhibition room, the project also plans to make the event more dynamic by organizing a series of liaisons with different figures (artists, curators, anthropologists, researchers, etc.) on different key themes addressed in the show. This exchange of ideas will start with dialogues about specific art works and then continue through different channels of communication, from letters to emails, WhatsApp chats, Skype videoconferences and telephone conversations. The idea is to see the works as devices full of meaning, capable of energizing new settings at the very moment they are observed, while at the same time the innovative, experimental multi-media conversation format creates different rhythms and time frames.
