Anthony Caro as major role in contemporary sculpture development. Born in 1924, he refused traditional techniques of sculpture and modeling and the pedestal use. Placing weld metal sculptures directly on floor, he introduced a new revolutionary three dimensional art perspective, involving intimately to the spectator in the sculpture space.
This work belongs to Flat series, who explore the flat effect throught of big and heavy metallic plates with sharp edges and curved who multiply vision angles of sculpture and provide dynamism. Anthony Caro uses industry materials to link energy and harmony with the strength of the steel and his rusty texture, evocating strain, balance, weight and lightness. It’s interesting the dialogue and the contrast with Richard Long's work in the same park.
