The heart of trees, 2007
Molten steel and cypress. Changeable dimension
Location: Parque Sur Fuente Lucha

Seven sculptures, seven bronze bodies, many as musical notes, each of them hugging a cypress. Jaume Plensa has become in an essential artist in public spaces, not only for his numerous interventions, but also by getting the dialogue of sculptures with the spectator and environment.

The human figure is the protagonist of his proposal, and Plensa takes his own body as a model but he don't intend representing itself. Everyone is unique and unrepeatable but take part in a society, a culture: the relation between particular and general, the fragment and everything, the smaller and the bigger, is the central idea of his work. The body just become in an inert thing who not changes, but the tree grows and one day, the tree will cover the face and it will flood the human figure. Tree and body as metaphors about the physical thing and spiritual.
The body is a container of words, ideas, data. Jaume Plensa is in love with words and music, words who permeate his sculptures, works full of strength and poetry, with closed eyes, who invites on reflexion.
